Every time we eat or drink we have the potential of putting something into the body that can protect, rejuvenate and enhance it by nourishing the cells, supplying energy, supporting detoxification and boosting the immune system. Now more than ever it is crucial to eat well to offset the effects of stress, alcohol, pollution and the myriad of toxins to which we are constantly and increasingly exposed. However, in a modern world where food is judged more on cost and convenience, we also have the potential to add to the factors doing the body harm with our dietary choices. The effects are not obvious immediately; the human body is very resilient and it is easy to live in denial. But the fact is that the modern Western diet, consumed over a long period of time and combined with other pressures, is likely to result in sub-optimal health and worse.
We have become too comfortable with the idea that we can live without being mindful of the needs of the body because the doctor can just prescribe a pill to make everything better again. However, it is increasingly evident that this knee jerk approach does not work and that, in order to be healthy, a person needs to nourish their body, mind and soul using what Mother Nature provides. People are waking up to the fact that they need to take ownership of their own health if they want to live a happy fulfilled life long into old age.
It’s easy to become bogged down and feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information available to us at the moment, not least all the media hype over super foods. I try to keep things simple and firmly believe that eating REAL FOOD (fresh seasonal local vegetables, pulses, grains, fruits, meats and fish), combined with simple achievable lifestyle changes, can help your body overcome disease and allow you to realise sustainable health; feel energised, pain free and alive. Ready to achieve your potential.
My job as a nutritionist is to help you to achieve your goals whether they are weight loss, increased energy, better memory function, enhanced immunity or overcoming a specific condition. I endeavour to help my clients do this using dietary and lifestyle changes and supplementation based on sound, research based, information and advice. By listening to my clients I endeavour to get to the root cause of their condition and formulate a bespoke eating and supplement plan. I am then able to communicate and support my clients over a period of time that suits their lifestyle, allowing them to create new healthy habits. I take seriously the idea of practitioner as teacher to help my clients to begin to feel empowered by gaining knowledge of what they need to thrive and begin to take ownership of their own health.
Many people think that eating nutritionally balanced, life giving food means depriving oneself of great tasting food. Actually, once knowledge has been gained and new habits formed most people realise that the opposite is the case and that discovering new healthy recipes and eating protocols is really fun and fulfilling. Sitting down to enjoy a home cooked meal with the family, knowing what ingredients it contains and how much good it is doing is a very fulfilling and infectious experience.
Much can be achieved by simply eating the right kinds of tasty meals and snacks in the right amounts and at the correct time of day. Often the first steps to change can be the hardest and that is why I am here. To help and guide you to a healthier future.
